Screenings for the Birth to Three Program
Interested in the Program? Curious how your child is developing?
We offer in-home screenings to anyone in the community:
- Developmental (How are they doing meeting milestones and learning new things?)
- Hearing (We screen infants as young as 3 months old!)
- Vision (Screening available for children 5 months and older.)
- Social-Emotional (How is your child doing with behavior and relationships?)

How much does Birth to Three program cost?
The Project H.O.P.E. Birth to Three program is FREE.
It is funded by a grant which allows us to provide services, screenings, field trips, parent groups, and books to our families. You do have to qualify on a needs scale basis, but a family liaison will go over those with you. If you do not qualify for our program, we will do our best to refer you to a program that will better serve your family.

Do we have to meet in my home?
Not necessarily, but children are more comfortable and receptive in their own homes. If you like, we can meet you in a nursery space at our office in West Chicago, the West Chicago Library, or one of your local schools.

How often are the visits?
Visits are based on what your needs and availability are. Generally, they are twice a month, but can be weekly. You and your family liaison will agree to a time and date together.

When do the visits take place?
Visits take place weekdays between 7 am and 4:30 pm. Our staff are very flexible and work to find a time that works well for your family. We also offer groups occasionally on a Saturday.

What about my older children?
The Birth to Three program is designed for expecting parents and families and children under the age of 3. If the older siblings are home, they can participate in the visit and we can bring learning materials for the siblings to use during the visit. Our program is also designed to support the whole family. If there are concerns or questions about older siblings, we can partner with you and your school to support those children as well.

What if I can’t make it to the visit? Can someone else attend the visit?
The program typically works with the primary caregiver(s). If you can’t make it to your visit, just talk to your family liaison. They do their best to be flexible and can reschedule for a different time or date.

What happens when my child turns 3?
In the months approaching your child’s 3rd birthday, you and your family liaison will work on a transition plan. We strongly encourage families to consider preschool as the next step and we can help you with that transition as well.

How do I sign up?
Call our office at (630)473-0778 or email us at [email protected]. Our program Case Manager will visit you and your child. She will screen any children 3 months and older and do a parent interview to learn more about your family. She will let you know if you qualify for the program and when services might start. She can also go ahead and start any referrals you might want for other programs and services. She can also share information on community resources, if needed.
