On Thursday, July 14, 2022, during the regularly scheduled board meeting, West Chicago Elementary School District 33's Board of Education announced that it had selected Ms. Amie Correa as the new principal of Gary School beginning in August 2022.
Amie Correa is a student-centered, goal-oriented leader that has served the community, families, and children of West Chicago for the past 26 years. She began her journey in education after being honorably discharged from the United States Marine Corps, where she spent four years repairing secure communication radios. Ms. Correa graduated from COD with a preschool teaching certificate and taught at Trinity Lutheran Preschool and Kindergarten. She moved to Pioneer and worked several years as a paraprofessional while earning her bachelor's degree in Elementary Education with endorsements for middle school in Spanish, English as a Second Language, Language Arts, and Social Studies. After graduating from Northern Illinois University, she served the families of Pioneer for eight years as a transitional bilingual teacher. From there, she moved to Gary for five years and then transitioned with the 6th graders to grow dual language programming at Leman. She has been an assistant principal at Leman for the last six years. In addition to serving the children of West Chicago, she is also an adjunct professor at NIU, where she teaches Methods of Bilingual Instruction. When Amie is not at school or attending local events, you can find her raising monarch butterflies with her twin boys, going for long walks with her friends, doing jigsaw puzzles, or sitting in the yard in front of a fire with her three little dogs. She is beyond excited to return to Gary to continue the work on the journey to making Gary and its Cougars all that she knows they can be.
