End-of-Year Calendar Changes

2026 calendar

D33 Families, Staff & Community -

We want to make you aware of an important change to the end of the 2025-26 school calendar.

Recently, we were made aware that Union Pacific Railroad’s historic Big Boy Train No. 4014 steam locomotive will be making a stop in West Chicago as part of its national tour during the final week of school. City officials predict this event could bring approximately 60,000 visitors to our community over several days.

After discussions with local officials and reviewing the potential impact on traffic, parking, and pedestrian safety, District 33 has made adjustments to the last days of school to help ensure students and staff can safely travel to and from school.

Big Boy West Chicago Schedule:

  • Tuesday, June 2, at 1:00 pm: Big Boy arrives in West Chicago
  • Wednesday, June 3, from 9:00 am-3:00 pm: Big Boy Viewing
  • Thursday, June 4, at 9:00 am:  Big Boy departs West Chicago
