Role of a Paraprofessional

  • Paraprofessionals are also known as Teacher Assistants or Teacher Aides.
  • Paraprofessionals work under the supervision of teachers or other licensed professionals who have responsibility for:
    • Meeting students’ physical, academic & emotional needs as necessary
    • Implementing strategies to meet learner needs
    • Observing, assessing, and tracking student progress
    • Assisting with the delivery of instructional services as assigned and developed by certified staff.

  • Full time, Monday through Friday

  • Requires 60 hours of college credit or successful passing of the Workkeys test

How to Obtain a Paraprofessional Licensure

Candidates with 60+ Hours of College Credit

  • Set up or sign into your ELIS account using this link: https://www.isbe.net/elis

  • Select “Apply for Credential” on your ELIS home screen & select “Paraprofessional License (Teacher’s Aide)”
  • There will be a $100 fee for licensure
  • Send college transcripts listing all coursework electronically to transcripts@dupageroe.org

Candidates without 60 Hours of College Credit

  • Set up an ELIS account using this link: https://www.isbe.net/elis
  • Send High School and/or College Transcripts electronically to transcripts@dupageroe.org
  • Required to take the Workkeys test (Math & Workplace sub tests)
    • Various test locations
    • Scores available immediately
    • Can retake in 24 hours you do not pass
    • Fee: $25 per sub test or $50 for both subtests
