Safety Protocols

  • West Chicago Elementary School District 33 looks forward to welcoming back our students and staff to the school buildings and we would like to share some updates pertaining to in-person instruction this year.

    School Supplies for In-Person Learning
District 33 will be providing some school supplies during in-person learning.  Please send your child to school each day with the following items labeled with your child’s name:

    • a clean mask
    • a water bottle
    • a bottle of hand sanitizer
    • device fully charged and charger (iPad/Chromebook)

The touchless water bottle filling stations will be used instead of drinking fountains.

    Bus Information
If your child rides the bus to and from school, students should be reminded they will need to keep their mask on when riding the bus and sit in seats assigned by the bus driver to ensure physical distancing.

When students arrive at the preschool and elementary schools in the morning, staff will be ready to take their temperatures before they enter the building. Students at Leman Middle School will have their temperature taken with a thermascan.  If a student has a temperature of 100.4 degrees or higher, a staff member will escort them to the evaluation room and  parents will be contacted to pick up their child from school.

All students will be offered a grab-and-go breakfast each morning that will be eaten in the classroom.

    Lunch & Recess
Students will be eating lunch in their classrooms since the cafeterias are being utilized for other purposes.  No lunch visitors will be allowed until further notice.

Students in the preschool and elementary schools will participate in recess daily with handwashing before and after, while also maintaining physical distancing as much as possible. Students are required to wear masks while playing on the playground equipment. Otherwise, masks are not required during recess or during breaks outside as long as students are able to maintain at least 6 feet of physical distance.  Playground equipment will be sanitized daily

    Face Coverings
Face coverings are required for all employees and all students while also maintaining at least 6 feet of physical distance when possible.

Students will not be required to wear masks while

    • eating
    • playing an instrument outdoors
    • during recess or during breaks outside, EXCEPT when using playground equipment

if they are able to maintain at least 6 feet social distance.

    Handwashing and Cleaning Protocols
Regular hand washing is one of the best ways to remove germs, avoid getting sick, and prevent the spread of germs to others.

    • Employees will teach and reinforce proper hand-washing, coughing, and sneezing techniques to students.
    • Hand sanitizer dispensers are placed in each classroom and in multiple locations throughout each building
    • Each classroom will have a bottle of pure hard surface cleaning spray.  This is a colorless, odorless, broad-spectrum antimicrobial sanitizer, disinfectant, and deodorizer that will be used before and after each group of students enters the room.

Each evening, the custodial crew will use an electrostatic fogger in all classrooms, hallways, common areas, and other high touchpoints in each building.

    Physical Spaces
Students will be taught how to properly transition from one place to another in the building while maintaining physical distance.  Face coverings will be worn during all transitions.

In the classroom, students will physically distance as space allows.  Non-essential furniture and equipment has been removed so that desks are able to be spaced 6 feet apart, where feasible.

District 33 staff is excited to welcome back students! We look forward to seeing you soon.
