All District 33 Schools Receive Commendable Rating on Illinois Summative Designation

Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA)

All D33 received COMMENDABLE Designation!

As part of Illinois' plan under Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), each year the state will set performance goals for all students and student groups and schools will receive a Summative Designation to show if goals are met.

There are four state school designations of exemplary, commendable, under-performing and lowest performing.

This year ALL District 33 schools received a Commendable designation. Commendable means all students and student groups met their performance goals.

Multiple Indicators of Student Success

Prior to ESSA, the state measured schools’ effectiveness using only one indicator -

the total number of students who achieved math and English Language Arts grade level proficiency.

With ESSA, schools’ effectiveness is now measured by how well an individual school is meeting the needs of all its students and student groups  (i.e. Hispanic, Black, Students with Disabilities, English Learners, low income) and uses multiple indicators that measure its progress toward performance goals.

Below are the indicators used:

1. English Language Arts Growth: 25%

2. Math Growth: 25%

3. English Language Arts Proficiency: 7.5%

4. Math Proficiency: 7.5%

5. Science Proficiency: 5%

6. English Learner Progress to Proficiency: 5%

7. Chronic Absenteeism: 20%

8. Climate Survey: 5%

While the Commendable rating is good news, we will continue to stay focused on our District and School Improvement Plans.  School improvement plans are how we, as an educational team, continually review and improve the curriculum, instruction, school climate and opportunities for all children in our schools.
