Student and Staff Showcase


The student/staff showcase provides the members of the Board of Education and others in attendance, the opportunity to learn about  innovative lessons and activities that are occurring both inside and outside the classrooms.

Wegner 5th GATE Passion Projects

Genius Hour is a practice originated at Google where employees use 20% of their work week to work on projects they have a passion for that benefit the company. The goal of Genius Hour is to engage students in inquiry problem solving allowing them to explore and investigate a topic they are passionate about. Students develop a question, research, and share their findings. Their findings might be in the form of a poster, model, Google Slide presentation, etc. In addition to their projects, Wegner students were required to create a blog using Google Sites to reflect on their ideas, struggles, and successes. 

Gary School International Club
The students in Gary School International Club research a country in which they are interested.  They learn about the culture, the land, the food and much more.  
Gary Fifth Grade Students' Lorado Taft Presentation
Fifth grade students from Gary School loved attending Lorado Taft for an overnight, outdoor edcuation experience.  They enjoyed  many different activities and learned so much.  Each student also shared with the board their favorite part of the trip. 
Inquiry Based Learning Lesson Taught by Wegner 4th Graders
Mary Szul, fourth grade teacher at Wegner School, and her students. presented a Social Studies Inquiry Based Learning lesson using a mind map to study the history of Illinois state symbols. The students displayed their posters as they taught the board members, administration, and audience members a lesson on Inquiry Based Learning. 
Currier Student Leadership Groups

Mr Mark Truckenbrod, Principal of Currier School,  and students shared information about three new programs at Currier School that offer leadership opportunities for the students:  the Principal Advisory Committee, the Student Patrol and the Currier Crew.

LMS Students Teach members of the Board "How to Use Tech Tools"
Students in Ms. Kenny's class at LMS were taught how to use five different tech tools. The students were tasked with writing how-to speeches and designing Google Slides presentations.  These presentations will be used to teach other students across the District
