Why is Physical Education important?

Welcome to Leman Middle School Physical Education and Health classroom webpage!

At LMS, our goal in the high quality physical education that we provide is to develop physically literate invidivudals who have the knowledge, skills, and confidence to enjoy a life time of healthful physical activity. 
 
Our staff contains seven physical education teachers as well as two health education teachers with a variety of experience and background knowledge.  
PE Curriculum and Standards
Our curriculum includes health enhancing activities aligned with the Illinois School Board Learning Standards as well as Shape America.
 
 
 Our program includes:
1st Quarter Units:  Football, Fitness, Soccer, Volleyball
2nd Quarter Units: Handball, Dance, Fitness, Ping Pong, Spikeball, Basketball
3rd Quarter Units: Pickleball, Cross Country Skiing, Fitness, Floor Hockey
4th Quarter Units:  Rec Games, Badminton, Softball, Tchoukball
 
Our students are assessed in the FitnessGram where they get invidiualized reports outlining their muscle strength, muscle endurance, flexibility, and aerobic capacity.

Health Education
Health Education
 
Health class will cover a wide range of topics. Students will be asked to complete a number of projects, keep a journal, read a novel and plays, work in groups, and daily homework assignments. Health grades are based on unit tests, projects and homework.
