District 33 has Been Approved and Awarded Participation in the CEO Program!
Beginning with the 2012-2013 school year, breakfast and lunch in West Chicago District 33 will be provided AT NO CHARGE to all enrolled students regardless of financial condition. On June 27, 2012, District 33 applied for the Community Eligibility Option program offered by the United States Department of Agriculture. On July 16, 2012, District 33 received notification from ISBE that District 33 had been approved and awarded participation in the CEO program. The District is now able to provide a breakfast and lunch to all students enrolled in any school in District 33, at no cost to the families.
Parents or guardians no longer need to apply or provide documentation for free or reduced fee breakfast and lunch. What’s the catch to no cost meals? There is no catch just a condition:
- Students must select three (3) out of five (5) healthy foods components – one of which must be a fruit or vegetable - for a healthy balance breakfast and/or lunch
(NOTE: A-la-cart items will still be available for additional purchase by students OR students can combine select items (i.e. milk, a grain and fruit) and get them at no charge.
Colorful instructive signs will be posted throughout school cafeterias to help students choose a well-balanced breakfast and/or lunch. Also, new this year is a second cashier at each school that will lessen student time in line, bringing about more time for your child(ren) to enjoy his or her balanced meal!
Studies show that access to healthy, well-balanced meals go hand-in-hand with student’s ability to learn in the classroom, to grow up healthy and to reach their fullest potential. CEO represents a wonderful collaboration between District 33 and USDA. Likewise, District 33’s food service provider, Aramark Education, is excited to bring nutritious meals to all students in the district.
Updates about menus and programs will be posted on www.wego33.org. To learn more about healthy school meals visit http://www.fns.usda.gov or www.myhealthyforlife.com. We hope you and your child(ren) have a great year! Please feel free to call us with any questions or comments.

Important Changes to the National School Lunch & National School Breakfast Programs
The USDA is making the first major changes in school meals in 15 years to help ensure a healthier generation of children. These changes are intended to significantly benefit the long-term well-being and success of today’s students and, in turn, will support our district’s core educational mission.
In preparation for these changes, ARAMARK Education dietitians and culinary professionals have been working to develop menu strategies and systems programs that will help District 33 meet the new standards efficiently and cost effectively. Our menus feature low and non-fat dairy options, lean protein choices, access to a wide variety of fruits and vegetables, assorted whole grain products, and 100% fruit juice & water. We continue to
- Reduce added fats, sugar and salt
- Eliminate added trans fats
- Promote and expand the availability of breakfast
Our recipes are designed to meet the nutritional standards, but also to focus on
student acceptability, so students will participate in a healthy school food service
Way to Go! All schools in District 33 offer Breakfast before school every day.
Studies conclude that students who eat school breakfast increase their math and reading scores as well as improve their speed and memory in cognitive tests.
Over 1200 elementary school students participated in a "Last Hurrah!" breakfast promotion on the last day of school. Students received a grab-n-go breakfast that provided one-fourth or more of the daily recommended levels for key nutrients. We are thrilled that our students enjoyed a healthy breakfast with their peers before embarking on a well-deserved summer break!
