HELLO!
Welcome to 7-Red Math. My name is Cynthia Harnew, and I am currently enjoying my 22nd year here in D33 - - it has gone by amazingly fast! I have my Bachelors' degree from MacMurray College and a Masters' from NIU. In my free time I enjoy cooking, reading, camping, my pets, and my kayak (aka the big banana). I also work part-time a few months out of the year for a theater group, finding props and assistant stage managing. I am a pretty good cook because I practice. I am a good reader because I have practiced. I am good at putting up and taking down my tent because I have practiced. I am getting better at kayaking because I keep practicing. I am good at math because I have practiced. Homework assignments = practice. If students want to be successful on tests and quizzes, they will need to practice too!

CURRICULUM
In just the past few years, the middle school has adopted a new math resource, titled Big Ideas Math, to support our learning of the Common Core Standards. A new curriculum and a new series means that we are in a transition, in more ways than one, and it is proving to be an interesting experience with many new challenges for students and teachers alike. Please be patient with us while we get used to these new pathways. For info on the Common Core, go to the State Board of Education's site (http://isbe.net/common_core/default.htm) and click on Mathematics in the right-hand column, or visit the district site to view our local information (http://www.wego33.org/cms/page_view?d=x&piid=&vpid=1324468303143).

HOMEWORK "HOTLINE"
Please follow this link to the 7-Red webpage to see assignments and class activities.
  1. All math assignments are due the next day unless otherwise noted.
  2. The existence of this homework hotline does not remove each student's responsibility for writing down each day's assignments and following the directions given in class.
  3. Things happen. Plans change. Do not expect this hotline to instantly reflect changes made in class. See #2 above.
